5 Quick Ways to Improve SEO

When it comes to Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO as it is often referred) there is no simple solution to push your website to the top. But have no fear, for we’ve put together this handy list of quick ways anyone can improve their Google-friendliness.

Publish content for people – and update it regularly.

One of the best ways to improve your SEO is to increase traffic to your site. To Google, more traffic means your site is more relevant. The key to this is to remember who is viewing your website. Write good content, check your spelling and grammar and write about relevant topics. Make sure your content is interesting and engaging and you’ll find that your website visitors are spending more time on your site reading it. Don’t just write paragraph after paragraph of keywords, Google is looking for relevant people-orientated content.

Update your content regularly and consistently to keep it fresh – weekly blog posts is a great way to do this.

Always be on the lookout for ways to link back to your content.

Linking back to your website from outside sources is a great way to improve your SEO. Popular sites linking back to you increases your relevance and boosts SEO. As well as other websites, link to your content from your own website. Link to a relevant blog post on one of your service pages or link back to a contact form. Rather than using phrases such as “click here”, create informative links which incorporate keywords.

Make your content easy to share.

Share your blog posts and new content to social media sites and ensure that you have ways for readers to easily send your content on to their friends. An easy way to do this is by adding social media and email sharing buttons to your website.

When creating your keywords, think about what terms your target audience might be searching for.

One quick way to do this is to have a look at Google’s auto-fill results when you start typing into the search bar, or think about what your clients would likely look for if searching for a business like yours.
There are also heaps of great tools online to help you analyse what people are searching for if you’re looking for more accurate results.

Utilise hierarchy in your content.

Use headings and sub-headings, bold text and paragraphs to create a hierarchy throughout your content.
Make sure you use the relevant tags and headings tools so Google can read it. I.e. your main page heading should be a h1, sub-heading should be h2 and so on.
